The holiday of Hannukah, also known as the Festival of Lights, is an eight day holiday to commemorate the rededication of the second Beit Hamikdash during the time of the Hashmonaiim. During this holiday we light candles starting with one candle on the first day and ending with eight candles on the last day. Before lighting the candles, we say special prayers and berachot. Additionally there are pizmonim that we sing on this holiday and we say Hallel as well as read from the Torah on all eight days.
